Saint Matthew - Chap 3
A voice in the wilderness. J-J Tissot |
And in those days cometh John the Baptist preaching in the desert of Judea.
And saying: Do penance: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
For this is he that was spoken of by Isaias the prophet, saying: A voice of one crying in the desert, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make straight his paths.
And the same John had his garment of camels' hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins: and his meat was locusts and wild honey.
Saint Mark - Chap 1
The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
[2] Sicut scriptum est in Isaia propheta : Ecce ego mitto angelum meum ante faciem tuam, qui praeparabit viam tuam ante te.
As it is written in Isaias the prophet: Behold I send my angel before thy face, who shall prepare the way before thee.
[3] Vox clamantis in deserto : Parate viam Domini, rectas facite semitas ejus.
A voice of one crying in the desert: Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make straight his paths.
Saint Luke - Chap 3
Under the high priests Annas and Caiphas; the word of the Lord was made unto John, the son of Zachary, in the desert.
[3] Et venit in omnem regionem Jordanis, praedicans baptismum poenitentiae in remissionem peccatorum,
And he came into all the country about the Jordan, preaching the baptism of penance for the remission of sins;
[4] sicut scriptum est in libro sermonum Isaiae prophetae : Vox clamantis in deserto : Parate viam Domini; rectas facite semitas ejus :
As it was written in the book of the sayings of Isaias the prophet: A voice of one crying in the wilderness: Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make straight his paths.
Saint John - Chap 1
And this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent from Jerusalem priests and Levites to him, to ask him: Who art thou?
And he confessed, and did not deny: and he confessed: I am not the Christ.
[21] Et interrogaverunt eum : Quid ergo? Elias es tu? Et dixit : Non sum. Propheta es tu? Et respondit : Non.
And they asked him: What then? Art thou Elias? And he said: I am not. Art thou the prophet? And he answered: No.
They said therefore unto him: Who art thou, that we may give an answer to them that sent us? What sayest thou of thyself?
[23] Ait : Ego vox clamantis in deserto : Dirigite viam Domini, sicut dixit Isaias propheta.
He said: I am the voice of one crying out in the wilderness, make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Isaias.
Totus tuus ego sum
Et omnia mea tua sunt;
Tecum tutus semper sum:
